This site was created by Mike Lynn, a local resident and admirer of this charming town. I have the pleasure of working locally and have always enjoyed running and walking around Yardley. I’ll be carrying my camera with me and I’ll share some of what I see.
I work for a large financial institution and spend my days concentrating on Information Technology, data center and runbook automation, stateless computing and managing a team of Engineers. I’ve been an avid web developer and graphic artist for years and I find that my day job benefits immensely when I have a creative outlet. I’ve always enjoyed photography, web programming and spending time in Yardley, so I figured this web site is the perfect blend of all of these things. If you’re more interested in Mike, hop on over the linkedin to find out more.
On January 1st, 2008, I started what will be a 366 (it’s a leap year) day journey. Each day of 2008, I’ll capture an image using my wife’s Kodak Easy Share Z712 IS Digital Camera and post it along with some thoughts. The subject of my posts will be an image of something in or around Yardley, Pennsylvania.
The site will show the most recent 5 pictures. To view others, you can simply click on the date in the calendar on the left side of the page, or click the month listed in the Archives section. Here’s a link to January, 2008.
The header graphics on the front page of the site were created from the daily photographs using VectorMagic from Stanford.edu. This site converts the images from JPEG format to a vector based graphic. There are (at time of this writing) approximately 160 header graphics loaded. Each time you visit the site or click refresh, a new, random header graphic will be displayed. I vectorize each of the daily photos and crop portions of them to fit the 865 pixel wide header space. I’m using photoshop to do the cropping and to apply the layer border style.
I’m using WordPress, a content management system (CMS) that’s relatively easy to set up and use. I’m using the neoclassical theme – but I’ve made several enhancements like the top level navigation tabs and a few other esoteric modifications.
I’m using a number of Plugins to enhance the site’s functionality – not least of which is the Yet Another Photo Blog (YAPB) Plugin. This does some nifty formatting and presents the site as a true photoblog. A special thank you to the plugin’s creator Johannes Jarolim. More information on the plugin is available his web site: http://johannes.jarolim.com/blog/wordpress/yet-another-photoblog/
The concept for this site is fairly simple. I’d like to share my experiences and provide some insight into what it’s like to live in/near Yardley, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I’m hoping that local residents, or former residents will find the site and enjoy the sites and experiences I capture and post on a daily basis.
